I purchased “Red 50” a 1950 Chevrolet ˝ ton five-window pick-up in 1986 while I was on a business trip to Phoenix, AR. to rebuild as a Hot Rod. I also purchased a junk 1970 Chevrolet pick-up to obtain 350 CI engine with four bolt main bearings and 400 Turbo transmission to rebuild.
I worked 2 ˝ years rebuilding Red from the frame up with the following changes:
·I rebuilt & installed a 350 Chevrolet Engine using special hypereutectic pistons I helped develop for Sealed Power’s Speed Pro Division. The engine was run on the Dyno at John Lingenfelter Performance, Decatur, IN. It developed 335 HP @ 5,000 RPM & 345 ft. lbs. of torque @ 4,000 RPM
·I rebuilt & installed a 1969 Camaro positraction rear end.
·I rebuilt & installed an AMC Pacer front-end with power steering, sway bar and power disc brakes.
·New truck bed & hard wood floor with polished stainless steel hardware.
·Centerline Aluminum Racing Wheels.
·6 way power seat.
·A Jasper Engine & Transmission Chevrolet Turbo 400 automatic transmission.
·Genie shifter.
·Stereo radio with 4 speakers & a hidden power antenna.
·Evars Body Shop, Fort Wayne, IN. painted Red 50 Ferrari Red. While I took a lot of the pictures that accompany this write-up, many were taken by friends shown below: ··Pictures were taken in front of Zollner Corporation by Jim Trainer to be used in a Zollner Calendar for our customers.
·My brother-in-law Glen Speer took the pictures in front of John Carnes’s home in Palm Harbor, FL. in December 2003.
·A few were taken by Dick Stockwell at a car show & parade I attended in Leamington, Ontario in 1990 where Zollner Canada is located.
